I am. I was just there for the Jazz Festival and saw the refurbished neighborhoods...every now and then a bldg with the x would remind one that it happened "here". I also went into the 9th ward and saw the chopped out holes in roofs and signs of despair everywhere. Take care of yourselves and your neighbors.
I am so saddened by the thoughts of all the destruction that can be. You were just getting on your feet again. My prayers are with that lovely, historic city.
Thinking of you and your lovely city. So many people are praying for you and all of those in the possible path of the hurricane. Stay safe. Thank you for the lovely photographs.
Sorry I've been away so long! We've been so busy this summer between doing all the custom lighting for the Acadiana Symphony Decorator Showhouse in Lafayette, LA and getting my son ready to go to college in California there was no time to write, although I'm brimming with ideas. Stay tuned! Thank you for all the the wonderful messages of hope. We're praying that this storm goes easy on whoever it lands on.
Julie, I've been watching the news with some trepidation but glad to see that Gustav wasn't as awful as some of the predictions. Looking forward to having you back and productive as ever. Hope the college trip went well. Best Ben Spaisman
Hi there, Julie, Just a little hello to you from Marrakech. Glad to hear that it has been such a productive Summer and that the storm did not follow the most dire predictions.
As thousands of candles on thousands of altars were lighted all over the place, with whispers of prayers, and promises offered, we were, indeed spared. Happy to see you post something again. Glad you are busy with good things, but please blog again soon.
I'm glad the city was spared. Of course, when it comes to hurricanes "spared" is relative. It doesn't take a Katrina to wreck havockon individual lives. Barbara
Thank you all for the wonderful comments! I'm glad to be back on the blogging trail. Good thoughts to Houston, Galveston and the Texas coast in recovering from Ike. We here in New Orleans know what it's like and send you all the best hopes for recovery.

I'm relieved that you were spared. Sounds like you've had a busy summer...looking forward to more great posts.
Tons of prayers. My dear cousin Linda lives in the beautiful place.
Thanks for posting those beautiful photos, especially the last one, the beautiful former home of Anne Rice, Author, on First Street, isn't it?
not too worry, how long has it been around for? exactly, it has survived all these years it can do it some more!!
Just found your blog and as a New Orleans Expat trying to figure out how to do "Swamp Palazzo" in DC, this is fantastic - can't wait for more posts!
